KOSHER UPDATES

Simcha Bakery is a new kosher, pareve and pas Yisroel bakery in the Toco Hills Shopping Center at 2899-A North Druid Hills, Atlanta, GA  30329.  Their phone number is 404-781-2253.

Ali's Cookies/Chocolate Chips Company/Shipacookie.com at 1255-13 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA  30068 is now under AKC supervision.  All baked goods are kosher and are either dairy or are made on dairy equipment (DE). Products that are DE contain no actual dairy ingredients and can be eaten after a meat meal. Their phone number is 770-971-8566.

Edible Arrangements is not under AKC supervision.  We do not recommend many of their cut-fruit arrangements.  Some of their arrangements contain non-checked berries and lettuces and possibly fruits dipped in non-kosher chocolate.

Jerusalem Grill is temporarily closed.

Miss Meringues, which used to be OU Pareve, is now OU Dairy. It has been removed from the pareve side of the Publix bakery and is now on the dairy side.

Due to insect infestation found in fresh berries, the AKC does not certify the cakes with fresh berries from the Cake Company. Arrangements for special productions under supervision can be made.

Israeli peppers are now on the market in the United States and Canada.  These products have the status of shmitta and should not be purchased.  Israeli oranges, grapefruits and persimmons are acceptable this year, but will have shmitta status next year because their flowering and most of their growth was during shmitta.  They do have to be tithed.

Suntree Assorted Mixes (Chocolate Nut Mix and Trail Mix) contain dairy ingredients as listed on the ingredient panel, but the dairy designation has been inadvertently omitted. The mixes can be found in Kroger by the produce section.

Some bags of Manischewitz Homestyle Soup Mix – 18 Beans have been found with insect infestation.  Please check before use.

AKC caterers provide kosher food for individuals and organizations. These organizations can have their event served on AKC equipment and supervised by the AKC or they can have it non-supervised or under their own supervision. One should check with the mashgiach or AKC office if one is unsure.
The Davis Academy Food Program is not under AKC supervision.
Currently the
JF&CS’s Meals on Wheels Program is coming from an AKC approved vendor.

Although most Pringles produced in the U.S. have been OU certified, Pringles Minis are not kosher.

Green Mountain Gringo Salsa from Winston, Salem in North Carolina by TW Garner Food Company was certified by the OU and has changed to another certification company. We do not currently recommend the product. If it still has an OU, it is acceptable.

Full-time permanent positions at supermarkets and other kosher facilities are available.
Please contact Rabbi Stein at 404-634-4063, or by e-mail at akc@kosheratlanta.org.

The AKC office is now equipped to accept payments for membership, newsletter subscriptions or donations via credit card. We greatly appreciate your support.
